Song of the Bowmen of Shu

Here we're, selecting the 1st fern-shoots
And asserting: while we could come back to our country?
Here we're simply because we have now the Ken-nin for our foemen,
We don't have any convenience as a result of those Mongols.
We grub the delicate fern-shoots,
When somebody says "Return," the others are filled with sorrow.
Sorrowful minds, sorrow is robust, we're hungry and thirsty.
Our defence isn't really but made certain, not anyone can allow his pal return.
We grub the previous fern-stalks.
We say: do we be allow to return in October?
There is not any ease in royal affairs, we haven't any comfort.
Our sorrow is sour, yet we'd now not go back to our country.
What flower has come into blossom?
Whose chariot? The General's.
Horses, his horses even, are drained. They have been strong.

Les Murray's accumulated Poems monitors the total variety of his poetic artwork. This quantity includes all of the poems he desires to look after, except the verse novel Fredy Neptune, from his first e-book The Ilex Tree (1965) to Poems the scale of images (2002). In tracing Murray's inventive improvement, it exhibits an ever-changing strength, grace and humour, in addition to nice versatility and formal mastery.
